Built-in word lists

The built-in lists cover common high-risk wording in Chinese copy; they are not a complete list. There is no official complete list of banned words in China, so the latest platform rules and regulations prevail.

Common Taobao violations

Listings that get demoted or removed, and shops that lose points, usually fall into one of these. The checker above covers the first five; check the last one yourself.

  1. 01

Made-up original prices and price fraud

Discounting from an "original" or "counter" price you never sold at, or claiming "factory price" or "selling at a loss" without proof. A struck-through price must be one you really sold at recently.

    Typical wording:

  2. 02

    Review bait and fake orders

Trading red packets or samples for five-star or photo reviews, or faking orders and shipping empty parcels. These count as fake transactions and fake reviews and are penalised.

  3. 03

    Knock-offs and borrowed brands

Writing "replica", "1:1" or "same as the big brand" in titles or details sells on someone else's brand and invites infringement complaints and removal. Describe your own materials and craft.

  4. 04

    Inflated quality and efficacy claims

Claiming "zero formaldehyde", "all natural" or "never fades" without a test report, or saying ordinary goods cure anything or work in days. State facts and conditions you can prove.

    Typical wording:

  5. 05

    Advertising Law absolute terms

Absolute terms such as best, number one, top-tier or national-level fall under the Advertising Law in product titles, image text and detail pages as well.

    Typical wording:

  6. 06

Not caught by the checker: images and categories

Stolen main images, absolute terms in image text, the wrong category, or titles stuffed with unrelated brand names and trending words. Check these yourself before listing.

    Typical wording:

How to use it

  1. 01

    Paste the title and details

Put the product title in Title and the detail page, image text or customer-service replies in Body. The title is optional.

  2. 02

    See what is flagged

Three lists are on by default: Taobao listing terms, Advertising Law absolute terms and efficacy claims. Untick any you do not need.

  3. 03

    Fix it, then list

Each hit comes with the reason and a rewrite, such as replacing "five-star review for a red packet" with "please review honestly after delivery". Fix them before you list or reprice.

FAQ

Is the Taobao banned-word checker free? Do I need to sign in?

It is free and needs no account: open the page and start checking. Signed in, you can add your persona's own banned words too.

What are Taobao's banned words?

Five kinds come up most: made-up original prices and price fraud (original price, factory price, selling at a loss), review bait and fake orders, knock-offs and borrowed brands (replica, same as the big brand), inflated quality claims (zero formaldehyde, never fades) and Advertising Law absolute terms.

How do I check a Taobao title for banned words?

Paste the product title into Title and the detail copy into Body; it checks as you type. Hits in the title are listed on their own, hits in the body are highlighted, each with the reason and a rewrite.

Why are "original price" and "counter price" flagged?

Under China's rules on price marking and price fraud, an original or struck-through price must be one you really sold at. This list is a reminder: keep it if you did sell at that price and say which price it is; a made-up original price is price fraud.

Does it work for Pinduoduo, JD.com and Tmall listings?

Yes. Made-up prices, review bait, knock-offs and absolute terms fall under the same laws on every e-commerce platform, so this checker suits Tmall, JD.com, Pinduoduo and Douyin shop listings too. It checks Chinese only for now.

Is my copy uploaded?

No. The check runs in your browser; the text you paste is never sent to a server or saved.

What are the words based on?

The Taobao list rests on the Price Law, the rules on price marking and price fraud, the E-Commerce Law, the rules against unfair online competition, the Trademark Law and Taobao's marketplace rules; absolute terms and efficacy claims rest on the Advertising Law. Each list and each hit names its basis.

If nothing is flagged, will my listing stay up?

Not necessarily. The built-in lists cover common high-risk wording, not every word; image text, stolen images and wrong categories are not checked either. Follow the platform's and the law's latest rules.
