Built-in word lists

The built-in lists cover common high-risk wording in Chinese copy; they are not a complete list. There is no official complete list of banned words in China, so the latest platform rules and regulations prevail.

Common Douyin violations

Live rooms that get warned or cut off, and videos that get throttled or removed, usually fall into one of these. The checker above covers the first five; check the last one yourself.

  1. 01

Sending viewers to a profile, DMs or another platform

Telling viewers to "check my profile" or "DM me to claim", or to order on another platform. Sell through the shopping cart or showcase and ask questions to be left in the comments.

    Typical wording: 看我主页、主页置顶、私信领取、私信下单、加我好友、站外下单

  2. 02

    Baiting follows, interaction and gifts

Pushing viewers to follow, light up fan badges or send gifts through guilt or rewards. The platform recommends such content less, and live rooms can be penalised.

    Typical wording: 点个关注、关注主播、点亮灯牌、刷礼物、榜一、不关注会后悔

  3. 03

    Low-price and freebie lures

Drawing people into the live room with "0-yuan deals", "free gifts" or "1-yuan flash sales" that turn out to have conditions or tiny stock. State real prices and rules you can honour.

    Typical wording: 0元购、1元秒杀、白送、免费送、不要钱、亏钱卖

  4. 04

    Fake endorsements and inflated claims

Claiming "recommended by CCTV" or "by experts" or "100 million sold" without proof, or using absolute terms such as "lowest price" and "No. 1". Endorsements and numbers need a source.

    Typical wording: 央视推荐、专家推荐、官方认证、全网爆款、最低价、第一

  5. 05

    Health and medical claims

Presenting ordinary food or cosmetics as cures, recommending them in the name of doctors, or promising results in days. Health content is a review priority on Douyin.

    Typical wording: 祖传秘方、老中医、神药、一针见效、治疗、三天见效

  6. 06

Not caught by the checker: what is shown and said

QR codes or phone numbers on screen, contact details read out loud, credentials not shown, or gestures hinting at off-platform deals. Check these yourself before going live.

    Typical wording: 画面露二维码、口播报手机号、未展示资质

How to use it

  1. 01

    Paste the script or copy

Paste a live-stream script, voice-over or short-video caption. The title is optional; hashtags can go at the end of the body.

  2. 02

    See what is flagged

Three lists are on by default: Douyin live and short-video terms, Advertising Law absolute terms and efficacy claims. Untick any you do not need.

  3. 03

    Fix it, then post

Each hit comes with the reason and a rewrite, such as replacing "DM me to claim" with "leave a comment and I will reply". Fix them before you go live or post.

FAQ

Is the Douyin banned-word checker free? Do I need to sign in?

It is free and needs no account: open the page and start checking. Signed in, you can add your persona's own banned words too.

What are Douyin's banned words?

Five kinds come up most: sending viewers to a profile, DMs or another platform; baiting follows and gifts; low-price and freebie lures such as 0-yuan deals; fake endorsements and absolute terms; and health claims such as secret family remedies or instant results.

Are live-stream banned words the same as short-video ones?

Mostly. Both fall under the Advertising Law and Douyin's community rules. Live streams add spoken problems such as baiting gifts and luring viewers in with low prices, so the list covers common live-script phrases too.

Does it catch contact details such as "add my WeChat" or "vx"?

This page checks Douyin's own diversion phrases such as "check my profile" and "DM me to claim". WeChat, vx, QQ and their homophones are in the Xiaohongshu traffic list of the banned-word checker, which runs all seven lists.

Is my copy uploaded?

No. The check runs in your browser; the text you paste is never sent to a server or saved.

If nothing is flagged, will my content stay unrestricted?

Not necessarily. The built-in lists cover common high-risk wording, not every word, and Douyin publishes no complete list. QR codes on screen, spoken content and credentials are not checked either. Follow the platform's latest rules.

What are the words based on?

The Douyin list rests on Douyin's community self-discipline convention, its e-commerce creator rules, the Measures for Online Live-Stream Marketing (trial) and the Advertising Law; absolute terms and efficacy claims rest on the Advertising Law and the Cosmetics Regulation. Each list and each hit names its basis.

How is this different from the Taobao and Xiaohongshu checkers?

All three check Advertising Law absolute terms; the platform list differs. Douyin covers live-room diversion, baited gifts and low-price lures; Taobao covers made-up original prices, review bait and knock-offs; Xiaohongshu covers off-platform traffic and mentions of other platforms.
